Arrival at School

Children must be accompanied into the school by an adult and should be left in the care
of a staff member. Do not leave until you are sure that a teacher or aide is aware that
your child has arrived for the day. After school your child should be picked up at the
front door. Do not wait in the car for your child as they are not allowed in the
parking lot without an adult. The school hours are 9:30 am to 12:00 noon for the
nursery classes and 9:30 am to 2:30 pm for the kindergarten class. It is important that
your child be picked up on time.

1. Your October tuition is due on September 1. From this point on you will pay one

and day care) you are required to pay one month's tuition at the time of application.

Medical Examination

Each child must present evidence of having received all required immunizations before
admission into the school. Health forms are part of your registration packet and must
be returned before your child begins school.

Illness

In the event that your child should become ill while at school you will be notified
immediately. Since children are so susceptible to infectious diseases it is important
that children not be in school when they are sick and can infect other classmates. In
case of absence from school due to illness, a written statement from the parents or a
physician's certificate of freedom from illness is required before a child may be
returned to the school.

Medication

The staff is not permitted to give medicine unless accompanied by specific directions
from the physician prescribing the medication. Special forms provided by the Health
Department for this purpose are available at the school.

What Your Child Should Wear to School

Children should wear comfortable clothes, slacks or shorts are recommended. Since your
child will be using paints in the classroom and playing on the playground, we suggest
that clothes should be washable.
Outdoor clothing should include hats, gloves, scarves and boots in cold weather. We do
go out-of-doors almost everyday, weather permitting. Layers of clothing are suggested
in the spring and fall. Please do not send your child to school with flip-flops as
shoes. These are not safe on the playground. Please mark your child's clothing with
his name.

What to Keep at School

1.
It is necessary for each child to have a smock or ladies or boys shirt for art
work; a piece of elastic added at the neck of the shirt will enable the child to
put on and off his own smock. A cotton shirt seems to work best.
|
2.
A box of kleenex
|
3.
A change of clothes for all 2 and 3 year olds, this includes: underwear, socks, shirt and pants.
|
4.
Children should not bring toys to school as it is too easy for these personal items to be lost.

Field Trips

We plan approximately one field trip per month for the older children. Transportation

transportation. A permission slip is required for each trip. Your help and presence may
be requested to ensure safety for the children.

Midyear parent-teacher conferences will be scheduled for each child. If parents should wish
to discuss any problems that may arise during the year, we urge them to make an appointment
with their child's teacher.

Printing

The Prince George's County school system uses the continuous stroke method of printing.
We also use it here. If you have any questions, please ask your child's teacher.
Names - It is important that your child also learns the proper way to write
his/her name (i.e., upper case capital letter for first letter only).
Examples: Elizabeth, Christopher
This is the way they will learn to read and write in school, therefore, this is the way
you encourage them to begin.

Discipline Policy

When a child misbehaves, the teacher will talk with the child quietly to explain why
the behavior was wrong. An example of appropriate behavior will be given. Lists will
be consistent and firm. The rules will not change from day to day.
If a child continues to display the inappropriate behavior "Time Out" will be used.
"Time Out" will be used for acts of physical aggression, destructiveness or tantrums
that cannot be ignored. "Time Out" will be used with children three years and older.
Two year olds will be removed from the situation.
During "Time Out" the child will be seated in a chair apart from the group but not out
of sight or hearing of the teacher. A timer will be set for one or two minutes for
first offenses. A child will not be required to sit for longer than 5 minutes. The
teacher will explain to the child why he is being required to sit in "Time Out".
Teachers will always make clear to a child that it is the child's behavior that is
wrong. No child will be called bad or made to feel bad about themselves.
If a child persists in the inappropriate behavior the teacher will confer with the
director and parent(s) to discuss a plan of action.
